Press Release - Eurosat BeyonDSL - 11 July 2003

Eurosat BeyonDSL brings broadband Internet for all

Eurosat BeyonDSL, a joint initiative between Eurosat Distribution Limited and BeyonDSL, has been formed to provide broadband Internet access for the UK and Eire. We are able to offer unrivalled, affordable broadband Internet access for those unfortunate enough to live outside ADSL and Cable enabled areas

Given Eurosat's expansive network, there will always be an Independent Electrical retailer nearby to set-up and install the service. Advice can be obtained directly from the dedicated website (see details below), Head Office telephone number or specially selected independent satellite / pc retailers.

Customers in both the UK and Eire can now have broadband via satellite for as little as £19.99 per month for the entry-level service. Installation will incur a one off cost of £249.99 inc VAT, which includes all the necessary equipment to begin receiving the service. There is no 'trigger' or a pre-determined 'target' for the customer to have access to this broadband service, Eurosat BeyonDSL really is offering Internet for all.

The service is powered by Eutelsat - Europe's leading global satellite operator.

Requiring a small satellite dish no larger than 60cm (43cm dish in the near future) and a connection to an existing ISP (via telephone or ISDN), the service offers 1 Mbit Internet access (double the speed of normal Cable/ADSL modems) and downloads of up to 400 Kbits/s. Included in the package are free audio and video streams which can be 'pushed' down to your desktop when offline, for example Euronews, Eurosport, and MTV.

Here are some quotes from those involved in the launch:

"The satellite industry has known for some time that satellite technology is the only way to achieve national broadband coverage at an economic price. Our work with BeyonDSL now means we can package this from as little as £19.99 per month to any home or building where a small satellite dish can be installed." Abbas Arbab-Zadeh, Eurosat Distribution Limited CEO

"Unlike terrestrial technologies which are restricted to a limited geographical area, Eurosat BeyonDSL's satellite service is available instantly throughout the UK and Eire. This is why it is so important for the customer to have access to a national network of specialist independent dealers to give them the right local help and advice. Eurosat's network has been established for decades and that's why Eurosat is the perfect partner to launch this new satellite service." - Mike Locke, BeyonDSL Managing Director.

"Having worked with the government's Broadband Stakeholders Group since its inception, it is particularly gratifying to be able to announce such a practical partnership in support of the government's objectives. Now that we can deliver the service nationwide and Eurosat can distribute it to Eurosat's dealers for customers anywhere, it is true to say that, thanks to Eurosat and BeyonDSL, Britain is at last a Broadband nation." - Rory Shearer, BeyonDSL Finance Director.

Editor's Notes:
The Eurosat Group (Eurosat), with a combined turnover of £50 million plus, is the UK's leading developer and supplier of satellite television equipment and consumer electronics. Established in 1988, the company was one of the first distributors for the satellite industry and manufactures it's own brand, Manhattan. With over 70 staff including specialist engineers, Eurosat constitutes a substantial presence in both the UK and the rest of the world.

BeyonDSL.net Ltd is equally expert with its principals' experience spanning two decades and five continents of satellite, computer and Internet industries. It has worked closely with Eutelsat in the UK since 2000 helping develop the satellite Internet market and creating live development platforms such as Convergence2.
