Manual SatLog-in

Although the OPENSKY™ Client is the easiest and most convenient way to access the OPENSKY™ service, there may be times when you want to login to the fast internet service without it. For example, if you have just signed up for an account and want to download the Opensky Client at satellite speeds.

You do not need to have any software installed on your PC for this method but you will need to set proxies in your browser manually whenever you want to login this way.

You can use this method with the BSM2: untick the "Enable VPN" box and commit changes. Use the BSM2 to connect terrestrially and then follow the below procedure.

Outline SatLogin / SatLogout Procedure

  1. Connect to the internet via your usual ISP
  2. Make sure your receive device is turned on
  3. Browse to the SatLogin page
  4. Enter your Login and Password
  5. Select “Connect”
  6. Click “Perform the operation”
  7. You will see the welcome screen
  8. Set your proxy configuration for satellite browsing

When you have finished using the service, please return to the SatLogin pages to Logout.

  1. Browse to the SatLogin page
  2. Enter your Login and Password
  3. Select “Disconnect”
  4. Click “Perform the operation”
  5. Reset your proxy configuration for terrestrial browsing.

SatLogin / SatLogout Procedure in Detail

  1. Connect to the internet via your usual ISP
  2. Browse to the SatLogin page https://sdr.eutelsat.net
  3. Enter your Login and Password
  4. Select “Connect”
  5. Click “Perform the operation”
  6. Set your proxy configuration for satellite browsing

The Welcome screen is quite large and contains a lot of useful information. It confirms your name and the data allowance you have used in the period.

  • It tells you what transponder you should be tuned to and the PIDs to be used.
  • There’s a reminder of the necessary proxy settings.
  • It confirms the transponder parameters.
  • It gives the details of your last session.

Now you can use the internet at satellite speeds: browse to your favourite sites or go to new multimedia sites which were too slow to visit enjoyably before.

Logout

When you have finished using the service, please return to the SatLogin page and logout.

  1. Browse to the SatLogin page https://sdr.eutelsat.net
  2. Enter your Login and Password
  3. Select “Disconnect” from the drop-down menu
  4. Click “Perform the operation”
  5. Reset your proxy settings to the ones you use for terrestrial browsing

When you logout, you get a reminder to change the proxy configuration back to your terrestrial settings. There’s also a summary of your account status.

Opensky Client

We recommend you use the OPENSKY™ Client as it gives you access to all the OPENSKY™ services – not just SatSurf – in one easy convenient control panel.

You can store your Login and Password for it to remember along with your chosen dial-up account so Login to SatSurf becomes a one-click process.

For the latest version of Internet Explorer, the OPENSKY™ client even automates the setting and resetting of proxy configuration as you Login and Logout.

And it gives you easy access to SatKiosk (file downloads) and the SatTV video streams.

You can download it here. Since it is approx 20MB we suggest you download it from a fast connection - such as the manual method described above or a terrestrial broadband connection.
