PCPlus Review

Issue 223 (Dec 04) On sale Oct 04

Rural Broadband - Solutions for the Whole Country

Thanks, PCPlus. It's always a pleasure to read a good analysis of the pros and cons of various types of rural broadband. Even more so when satellite gets a fair crack of the whip.

So you can imagine how pleased we are to be this month's PCPlus Editor's Choice for rural broadband.

We can't give you the whole article here at the moment - after all, this issue of PCPlus has only just hit the streets. So for now, here are a few quotes from their excellent review of a number of competing solutions.

  • "....if you want the increased speed of broadband for general business browsing and ecommerce requirements, together with email delivery, if you include USB DVB hardware, then Opensky is about as good as it gets at this price point."
  • "This provides high-speed satellite connectivity without any fuss or frills..."
  • "We tried both a MAC and a Dell PC and it worked as promised, straight out of the box."
  • "You'll be connected in seconds using the Opensky VPN. The BSM 2 has a built-in DHCP server and is easily connected to a hub or switch to share the connection between multiple computers."
  • "The 'opt-out at any time' contract, consistent data delivery and value for money make this hard to resist."
