Reception Parameters

If you use the Opensky client and have an OS Control compatible data receiver, most of these parameters will be set automatically when you login and logout.

If you are using the F10/BSM 2, you will store the necessary parameters in the F10/BSM 2 control web pages.

Mail Server Settings

You can set your mail program to use the speed of Opensky inbound to receive your emails at satellite speeds.

You will need to change one of your email server settings depending on whether you are using the Proxy method (Opensky Client and manual login) or the OSDA method (VPN).

  • If you are using Opensky Client or manual login with proxies, you need to change your incoming mailserver and username.
  • If you are using OSDA - either with the Opensky Client or with the F10/BSM 2, you need to change your outgoing mailserver.
  • Terrestrial Dial Up and F10/BSM2 with Enable VPN UNticked use the same mail settings.

The service uses the standard mail ports. POP 110, IMAP 143, POPS 995, IMAPS 993. These are typically set automatically by the mail application. Mail servers using non-standard ports will not work with this service.

Proxies

If you are using the Opensky Client or if you are using the manual login/logout page, you will need to set the Opensky proxies in the browser (and other applications) you want to use via satellite.

If you are using the F10/BSM 2 you do NOT need to set proxies. (Unless you are using it manually with "Enable VPN" disabled.

If you do not want to use proxies, you can configure the Opensky Client to use OSDA (Opensky Direct Access) which is a VPN technology. More information here.

Opensky will apply proxy settings to IE5.5 and above automatically if you have set your default dial-up connection. If you have a different browser or application or if you have not set Opensky to use your default connection, you will need to set proxies manually.
